Greg Oden has the exact same birthday as me.

July 9th, 2007

For those of you who don’t know who Greg Oden is, he was the first pick of the 2007 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers. He’s a center, and they say good centers are the hardest to come by. NBA analyst Steve Kerr has described him as a “once-in-a-decade player.” You want shooting guards? Kobe, DWade, Vince Carter, T-Mac just to name a few.

For centers, the only ones that immediately pop into my head are Shaq and Yao. Like most people say, shooting guard is the deepest position — you can find a TON of good shooting guards; basketball is a team game and every position is important. This is why it is crucial to have a powerful center. That’s why the Lakers dynamic duo Kobe and Shaq were able to dominate the league, and that’s why they gave up potentially Jason Kidd for Andrew Bynum, who was a huge bust.

Greg Oden is going to be a superstar to come at 7 ft tall and 257 lbs, and I’ll be rooting for him because we were born in the same day, the same month, in the same year (January 22nd, 1988).
